Sir James Paul McCartney CH MBE (born June 18, 1942) is an English singer, songwriter and musician who gained worldwide fame as co-lead vocalist and bassist for the Beatles. McCartney collaborated with Michael Jackson on three songs in the early 1980s — “Girlfriend” (Off the Wall, 1979 — McCartney wrote it for MJ), “The Girl Is Mine” (Thriller, 1982) and “Say Say Say” / “The Man” (McCartney’s Pipes of Peace, 1983). Their friendship soured in 1985 when Jackson outbid McCartney to acquire the ATV Music Publishing catalogue, which contained the rights to most Beatles songs.
