Michael and Prince reportedly hold a face-to-face meeting in Los Angeles to discuss a possible duet on the song later released as “Bad”.

The proposed collaboration never materialises, but the idea is significant because it places two of the decade’s biggest pop figures inside the same creative conversation as the Bad album takes shape.

The missed collaboration is one of the most intriguing roads-not-taken in the Bad era. It also helps explain why the album’s title track carries such a competitive, cinematic energy even without Prince appearing on it.
