Jonathan “Sugarfoot” Moffett is an American drummer best known as Michael Jackson’s longtime touring drummer. Born in New Orleans on November 11, 1953, he first played with the Jacksons during the Destiny tour in 1979, going on to become the only musician to perform on every solo Michael Jackson tour: Triumph (1981), Victory (1984), Bad (1987–89), Dangerous (1992–93) and HIStory (1996–97). He was also drumming during the rehearsals for This Is It in 2009.
His nickname “Sugarfoot” comes from his rapid double-bass-drum technique. Beyond Jackson he has played with Madonna, Lionel Richie, Elton John, George Michael, Cameo, Janet Jackson and many others. He continues to tour and give clinics, and has spoken at length in interviews about his work with Michael, including the rehearsals for the cancelled This Is It residency.
