Ed Sullivan (1901–1974) was an American television host best known for The Ed Sullivan Show, which ran on CBS from 1948 to 1971. The Sunday-night variety programme became a defining showcase for popular music acts in mid-century America. Sullivan introduced the Jackson 5 to a national audience on 14 December 1969, a few weeks after their debut single “I Want You Back” began climbing the charts.
