The project brings together an unusually high-profile creative team: Francis Ford Coppola as director, George Lucas as producer, and Michael as the centre of the film’s music-and-dance spectacle. For Disney, it is designed as a theme-park attraction rather than a conventional theatrical release.
The announcement places Michael directly inside the mid-1980s convergence of pop music, film technology and themed entertainment. It also marks the beginning of one of his most distinctive screen projects between Thriller and the Bad era.
