“State of Shock” released as single

The Jacksons release “State of Shock” as the lead single from Victory. The track is a duet between Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger, giving the album an immediate cross-rock/pop talking point.

Originally associated with the wider Victory campaign, the single reaches audiences before the tour itself begins and becomes one of the most visible non-Thriller Michael-related releases of 1984.

Its placement on the timeline matters because it lands while the Victory Tour machinery is being built around the Jackson brothers, even as Michael’s solo fame is still accelerating from Thriller.
